As of September 3rd 2020, Gillespie County has yet to report a single case, domestic or wild, of the RHDV2 outbreak. However, at the rabbitry we are still taking lots of precautions to ensure our barn stays clear of infection. While we already had a biosecurity system in place since we began breeding and raising rabbits, we have greatly amped it up this year in the wake of Covid-19 and RHDV2. Below you will find all of our updated biosecurity measures for our rabbitry and how we are doing our part to slow the spread. If you plan to purchase from us, or have already done so, please help us enforce these rules by following them.
-Access to the rabbitry and contact with the rabbits is very minimized. Due to COVID-19 we can’t have more than ten (10) persons gather, so individuals coming to collect animals are required to keep maximum number of persons to each vehicle at five (5) count.
-All customers coming to collect rabbits are required to thoroughly wash their vehicle once in Fredericksburg’s city limits. This includes, but is not limited to, the vehicles underside, grill, tires and body. This is because disease can also be spread by vehicles to. ***Brownie points if you snap a selfie of you cleaning in action!***
-Before entering the barn, all persons will be required to gather in the wash rack and be required to put plastic shoe covers on and participate in a foot bath. Hand sanitizer and gloves will also be provided. Masks are not mandatory. Once exited from from the barn, all persons will gather again at the wash rack where shoe covers and gloves can be taken off and be properly disposed of and hand sanitizer will also be available.
What Are We Doing To Slow The Spread?
-Controlling wildlife (wild/feral rabbits, predators, insects, birds, rodents, and other animals) near the rabbitry.
-We do not personally travel or transport rabbits into or out of reportable diseased areas.
-No visitors, unless necessary, and strict measures are followed by visiting party to help enforce our biosecurity measures.
-Washing/disinfecting hands in-between handling of rabbits in different pens, cages or sections of the rabbitry.
-Routinely disinfect cages, feeders, water crocks, and other equipment on a regular basis.
-Manure is removed regularly and taken away from the rabbitry
-Insect control when necessary. Example: fly strips, natural pest spray, etc.
-Maintaining good ventilation of fresh clean air in the rabbitry.
-Each rabbits health is monitored on a daily basis and sick/new stock is immediately removed and quarantined.
2020 Covid-19 Updates
Due to having to reduce our herd size drastically this year in the wake of Covid-19, we will not be accepting as many orders this year. If you are wanting to order rabbits from us, please do so ASAP.
In other news, deposits for 2020-2021 meat pens will be 50% of your total pen(s) cost & will be due at the time of placing your order with us. Deposits can be in the form of a check sent via mail or cash. The reaming cost of your pen(s) is paid upon pick up of the rabbits & is cash only.
Once the does have been bred & kindled no refunds will be given* if for any reason you decide to not purchase from our rabbitry, to not participate in your selected show, or if your show has been cancelled due to Covid-19.
*Full deposit refunds will only be issued back to the buyer if for any reason the doe has an unsuccessful pregnancy, the kits suddenly pass away, or any other event that occurs to the kits that is entirely out of our control. Show cancellations due to Covid-19 do not count as an automatic refund due to the fact that cancelling a county show is up to the show committee not us as breeders.
